Privacy Policy
Effective October 2, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Sidebar Interactive LLC (“Sidebar Interactive,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information through the settled.social website and the Settled mobile app (together, the “Services”).
Information we collect
On this website
- Update sign-ups. If you sign up for updates, we collect your email address so we can send you Settled news.
- Messages. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include.
- Technical data. Our hosting and network providers process standard request data, such as IP address, browser type, and pages requested, to deliver and secure the site. We do not use cookies or analytics on this website.
In the Settled app
- Account information. When you sign in with Apple, we receive a user identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address (which may be an Apple private relay address).
- Profile information you add, such as a display name or photo.
- Case content. The arguments, categories, photos, screenshots, links, and other evidence you submit, and the votes and comments you make as a juror.
- Invitations. If you invite someone to a case or a jury, we process the contact details you provide to send that invitation.
- Reports and blocks you make, and records of how we responded.
- Device and usage data, such as device type, operating system version, app version, crash logs, and push notification tokens, used to operate and improve the app.
How we use information
- To provide the Services: creating cases, inviting participants and jurors, counting votes, and showing verdicts.
- To keep Settled safe: screening content before it’s posted, reviewing reports, enforcing our Terms of Use, and preventing abuse.
- To communicate with you, including product updates if you signed up for them, and responses to your messages.
- To maintain, secure, debug, and improve the Services.
- To comply with legal obligations.
AI features
Settled uses artificial intelligence to write neutral case summaries, highlight where the two sides disagree, power the optional AI Judge, and screen content for harmful material. To do this, case text and related content are sent to AI and content-safety services provided by Microsoft Azure, acting as our service provider. These providers process the content only to deliver these features to us and are not permitted to use it to train their own models. AI-generated summaries and verdicts are opinions and may be inaccurate.
How we share information
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share information only:
- With other participants, as the Services require. For example, the people in a case and the jurors invited to it can see the case content, votes, and juror comments.
- With service providers who host, store, process, or secure data on our behalf, such as Microsoft Azure (app hosting, storage, and AI services), GitHub (website hosting), and Cloudflare (network and email routing), under contracts that limit their use of the data.
- For legal reasons, if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or Sidebar Interactive LLC.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or acquisition, subject to this policy.
Retention
We keep account information and case content for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep limited records to comply with the law, resolve disputes, or enforce our terms. Update sign-up emails are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them.
Your choices and rights
- Delete your account in the app under Profile, then Settings, then Delete Account, or by emailing us.
- Access or correct your information by contacting us.
- Unsubscribe from update emails by replying to any of them or emailing us.
- Notifications can be turned off in your iPhone’s Settings.
California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and disclose; to request deletion or correction; and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under California law. To make a request, email hello@settled.social. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.
Children
Settled is intended for adults 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
We use industry-standard safeguards, including encryption in transit, access controls, and short-lived upload links for evidence files. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we’ll update the effective date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
